Milwaukee, Wisconsin, JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE : Under the direction of the President & Executive Director, the Vice President, Marketing & Communications gives the best possible support for the organization through achieving ticket revenue goals and taking responsibility for the sales and marketing for the organization’s concerts and events. This includes product development and packaging, pricing, revenue forecasting, strategic development of subscription and single ticket sales campaigns and image/brand awareness campaigns. Includes strategic development and positioning of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, its products and its brand through the combined resources of public relations and government affairs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Oversee strategic marketing, communications, and brand management. Serve as key member of executive management team. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications will ensure that all organizational communications will accurately reflect the brand and standards of the institution.
With the artistic staff and President and Executive Director, develop seasonal product offerings, including:
Tracking sales and satisfaction data for use in product planning
Collecting P & L data and make recommendations based therein
Forecast ticket revenue, plan strategies to meet revenue targets:
Oversee subscription and single ticket sales campaigns, subscription renewal/retention, new acquisition, and repeat single ticket buyer
Manage and monitor the marketing expense and revenue budget
Plan pricing, packaging and offers for all Symphony series and events
Manage marketing and box office staff effectively to meet organization revenue and goals:
Utilize/train staff in direct marketing/sales, advertising, graphic design, customer service
With staff, create marketing and sales plans
Manage marketing committee to positively impact audience development goals:
Direct and recruit for sub-committees, including promotions, customer retention, database marketing, events and research
Oversee the communications staff and all aspects of the MSO’s internal and external communications including crisis and issues communications, public relations, media relations, social media, multi-media, thought leadership, and content partnerships
Act as resource to Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers in areas of marketing and sales:
Report at Board and Executive Committee Meetings
Serve on needed Board/volunteer committees
Present to various community groups when necessary
Guide, support, and develop the marketing, communications, and box office staff:
The Vice President will lead and collaborate with their department using the MSO guiding values

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS : This position has contact with various constituencies and stakeholders, including staff, musicians, board members, volunteers, and community partners.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE : This position requires a Bachelors’ Degree in Marketing or related discipline and a minimum of five years’ experience in sales, budgeting, and marketing in an arts or related environment; proven track record of success and upward progression in the area of sales, marketing and customer service.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : This position supervises Director of Communications and Director of Marketing.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Excellent verbal and written skills are necessary, including the ability to speak before a group.
REASONING ABILITY : Able to collect data and information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; strong entrepreneurial and visionary drive.
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED : None.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Proficient computer skills are necessary in the position; technical competencies related to customer service, sales, and marketing functions; ability to lead, mentor and motivate staff; high energy and contagious enthusiasm; knowledge of metro Milwaukee and MSO history; and an understanding of classical music is preferred.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
