Requirements Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer – Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) – Georgetown University Job Overview The Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer is a key member of the Marketing and Outreach team for English Language Programs (ELP). The primary objectives of the Marketing and Outreach team are recruiting new applicants to the program, building ties with partner institutions and leaders in the TESOL field, involving current participants in Marketing and Outreach projects, providing engagement and professional development opportunities for alumni, and enhancing program visibility. These objectives are met using a variety of in-person and digital means, including regional and national conferences, special events, social media, the program website, an online participant community of practice, recruitment webinars, newsletters, and more. The primary responsibility of the Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer , under the direction of the Marketing and Outreach Manager, is to develop and execute a strategy to promote ELP to external audiences (prospects and applicants, institutional partners, and others), using all available as well as new platforms and techniques. The Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer will create communications content, design digital and print materials, implement campaigns, and collaborate with other Marketing and Outreach team members to fulfill the approved strategy. English Language Programs, funded by the U.S. Department of State, places experienced U.S. TESOL professionals at educational institutions on short- and long-term assignments in all regions of the world, conducted both in-country and virtually. Participants in the Fellow, Specialist, and Virtual Educator Programs promote English language learning and mutual understanding through cultural exchange. The Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) at Georgetown University is the current administrator of English Language Programs. The duties of the Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer include but are not limited to: Strategic Engagement Creates and executes a comprehensive strategy to expand ELP’s social media, digital engagement presence, and other visibility initiatives, ensuring all communications and outreach activities are fully integrated with each other; Ensures all elements of ELP’s marketing strategy are based on fairness, equity, and inclusion, and represent the U.S. Department of State’s commitment to representing the diversity of U.S. society in its international exchange programs; Defines key performance indicators to gauge success of print and digital communications and public engagement efforts; identifies best methods of collecting and interpreting analytics; and designs schedules and methods for reporting results; and Reports analytics and conclusions to Marketing and Outreach Manager, program directors, and U.S. Department of State leadership. Communications and Design Manages ELP’s social media profiles and calendar of engagement, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn; Designs campaigns to meet the marketing objectives of the Fellow, Specialist, and Virtual Educator Programs, aligned to their specific recruitment and event schedules, and to the existing and developing trends that impact each program’s target audience; Plans, creates, and publishes content across social media platforms, working with Outreach coordinators and program teams to keep abreast of all new policies, stories, events, and announcements; Designs and creates digital display ads (including paid ads), desktop and mobile social media graphics, printed collateral, logos, identity and brand assets, onsite and virtual events materials and promotional displays, including multimedia options, for example, graphics for video projects; Develops high visibility design concepts that impact external impressions; Identifies new resources, techniques, and processes; recommends and implements new approaches to increase open rates, click-throughs. deliverability, and opt-ins; Consults with other ELP teams to ensure consistent style and branding in the development of their materials, creating templates as needed; and Collaborates with the IT Projects team on ELP website, Community of Practice, and Learning Management System maintenance and content and design enhancements. Other Duties Travels to recruitment conferences, program visibility events, and orientations, as required; Backstops Marketing and Outreach team members while they are out of the office; Takes on temporary duties when team members leave their positions; and Participates in the onboarding and training process of new team members. Work Interactions The Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer is a key member of the 23-person ELP team at CIED. The team consists of five units, each unit with its own manager and a cadre of coordinators supporting the work of the respective manager. Marketing and Outreach is one of the five units within ELP and the Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer is instrumental to the program’s development and implementation. While the Senior Marketing Strategist and Graphic Designer reports directly to the Marketing and Outreach Manager, they also closely collaborate with other Outreach team members, members of the other ELP units, and Finance Office staff at CIED and, externally, they interface with staff at DOS in Washington, D.C., and at the U.S. Embassies overseas. The position directly supports DOS goals of building friendly, peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through academic, cultural, and professional exchanges, which aligns with the GU principle that serious and sustained discourse among people of different faiths, cultures, and beliefs promotes intellectual, ethical and spiritual understanding. Requirements and Qualifications BA in Communications, Digital Marketing, or related field 3 to 5 years of relevant experience Portfolio of work, demonstrating extensive experience in graphic design, technical implementation, and communication objectives, as required for this position Ability to manage time and work with a sense of urgency to complete multiple ongoing projects simultaneously Ability to shift gears quickly and adapt to changing strategy and objectives while staying resilient and maintaining a great attitude Experience gathering requirements, pitching design concepts, and delivering the final product Experience building strong relationships and collaborating across all stakeholder groups Exceptional design skills with the ability to utilize design principles and best practices to effectively communicate marketing and outreach messaging Experience creating imagery to support social media brand storytelling, online advertising, and multimedia materials Being in-tune with the latest trends, inspiring design sites and blogs Experience developing graphics using tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Proficient in photo editing, retouching, and color correction Proficient in using analytic platforms such a Google Analytics/Adobe Analytics Ability to use internal administrative tools and CMS to manage schedules, assign tasks, and deliver content design, production, and implementation Preferred Qualifications Experience working with federally funded exchange programs and/or educational programs Experience with project management software, such as ClickUp Video editing skills Work Mode: Telework.
