New Orleans, Louisiana, Job Summary: Xavier University of Louisiana seeks applicants for the position of Senior Strategic Communications and Marketing Manager. Specifically, this role focuses on supporting, promoting and enhancing Xavier University of Louisiana’s profile and elevating the University’s brand by coordinating and connecting the work of the 3 departmental unit managers within the department and recommending strategies for improved processes and efficiencies in daily operations to the Assistant Vice President of Marketing Communications and the Vice President of Administration/Chief of Staff. This role will partner with the Senior Manager of External Affairs in the President’s Office on institutional initiatives for brand elevation and meet regularly with that partner to keep the Vice President/Chief of Staff informed of daily operations within the office.   This position will report to the AVP of Marcomm with a dotted line of report to the VP/ COS .   A successful candidate for this position works under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communication for managing day to day planning/work load of all of the organization major areas of responsibility that include editorial leadership, assigning, managing, and approving print publications, digital communications, public relations, media strategy, social media management, and brand management. This role will also serve as a member of the senior management team of the Division of Administration by collaborating with VP of Administration/Chief of Staff and Presidents Office staff in charting the direction of the division and institution, assuring its accountability to all constituencies, and ensuring its effective operations. Xavier University of Louisiana is an Equal Opportunity Employer.    Minimum Qualifications: Advises the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications and informs and advises the Vice President/Chief of Staff via partnership and collaboration with the Senior Manager of Community and External Affairs positioned in the President’s office in all areas associated with the development and implementation of institutional communications, marketing, branding, website and digital and social media efforts.  Acts as a departmental lead, manage staff and daily operations with the AVP while advising on strategy and departmental operations Manage and approve day to day workflow/assignments for the department  Assist in facilitating internal and external communications; and all organization marketing, communications relations activities and materials including publications, media relations, website, branding, social media and so forth. Serve as direct manager/supervisor of the communications team  Approves press releases, media advisories, statements letters, interdepartmental memos and other business correspondences as needed  Assist in the development of materials to educate staff on communication practices and skills Help formulate and administer departmental policies to ensure the integrity of the department policies and procedures. Assist in management of department budgets and fiscal  Responsible for approving and managing editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all organization publications. Coordinate media interest in the organization and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.  Provide counsel to the departments and divisions on marketing, communication, branding and social media.  Ensure that the organization regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinate and oversee this activity. Monitor trends. Leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events. Consult with executive management to develop effective communication procedures and policies for various situations or crises Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications, branding, social media and public relations, and use this information to help the organization operate with initiative and innovation.  Act as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to institutional priorities.  Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top quality personnel, both paid and volunteer.  Recruit, train, appraise, supervise, support, develop, promote and guide qualified personnel, both paid and volunteer. Ensure effective management within the marketing, communications and public relations function, with provision for succession.  Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or other discipline that provides a foundation for superior writing, research, and strategic communications  6-8 years of experience in related fields and managing staff Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communications skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.  Minimum of five years of experience and demonstrated success in work environments with communications, public relations, publications, and/or social media responsibilities. High level of proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Outlook, Keynote or similar online presentation tools Demonstrated ability to create high-quality communications for various audiences.  Proactive work style with ability to manage multiple projects, consistently meet deadlines, and adapt to quickly changing environments.  Good judgement, discretion, and ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with multiple constituencies including media, staff across the institution, and partners.  Superior organizational and project management skills.  Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as needed to meet deadlines and support university events and initiatives Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing,  Communications and public relations activities. Must have strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills. Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising is required and appraising personnel Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.  Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications. Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout. Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. Must have strong oral and communications skills.  At least three years of management experience is required as is experience in one or more of these areas: marketing, public relations, media relations, news and information, social media, video production, photography and publications.
