What the Marketing Specialist does AGU’s Communications, Media & Marketing (CMM) team supports the organization by elevating AGU’s voice as a leader through promotion of the research conducted by AGU members, highlighting the successes of AGU’s many programs, and supporting AGU’s events throughout the year. The purpose of the Marketing Specialist is to provide operational support for the promotion of AGU’s topical meetings and Chapman conferences, support AGU’s email marketing program and provide support to several AGU projects and programs. In addition, the incumbent in this role will support communications activities, including work with traditional media and pitching opportunities. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Marketing and Advertising. Supports the Assistant Director, Marketing and Advertising with AGU’s events and topical conferences, to include making website updates, working with the creative team on marketing collateral and keeping the calendar of deadlines to ensure items are completed on-time. Partners with members of the CMM team to support AGU’s Net Zero building initiative – to include maintaining the website, writing blog posts, seeking opportunities to promote the building as a destination for events with reporters/social media. Assists in the promotion of AGU as a “Best Places to Work” including writing the initial draft for award submissions and promoting AGU with traditional and social media. Supports the CMM team with development of engaging, informative and consistent content related to AGU’s programs and events for social media channels (e.g., multimedia such as Instagram stories, WeChat/TikTok, YouTube) Assists the CMM team in the building of emails for all AGU programs in Marketo email platform Maintains AGU’s program websites and ensure the content remains current. With assistance from Assistant Director, Marketing and Advertising, curates and drafts content for AGUniverse, AGU’s weekly e-newsletter Assists in the monitoring of the AGU news inbox, fielding questions from reporters as necessary. Other duties as assigned. What the Marketing Specialist brings to the team Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related discipline with up to 3 years of experience. Experience with a variety of marketing platforms is a plus (ex: Marketo, Mail Chimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud) Ability to communicate easily and effectively with scientists and researchers, as well as AGU staff and leaders, in both public and private settings. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Strong time management and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail and ability to manage complex logistics. Knowledge of writing and publishing software, such as Microsoft Word and Word Press, as well as e-mail and Microsoft Excel. Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g. Marketo). Knowledge of enterprise platform (e.g., Sitecore) a plus. Knowledge of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube, and social media management software, such as Hootsuite and Falcon. Excellent research, writing and communications skills with a strong preference for proficiency in AP style. Excellent proofreading skills, with a strong attention to detail. Highly motivated with the ability to work independently.
