DC, The OSA meetings marketing team is responsible for a comprehensive promotion program that supports three large conferences (OFC, CLEO and FiO) and up to 30 “topical” meetings annually. The position provides essential strategic and tactical promotion support to ensure organizational key results in meetings attendance and revenue are met. The Marketing Manager relies heavily on sustaining strong relationships between the marketing team and relevant volunteers, as well as staff members from other OSA teams.
Writes copy for collateral/brochure materials and direct marketing and email marketing pieces; this includes significant time spent collecting/synthesizing program content from other sources and preparing it for use by internal support staff and/or external vendors.
In collaboration with the Director, develops comprehensive marketing strategies and plans to achieve budgeted attendance and paper submission goals for OSA conferences and meetings.
Develops and manages production schedules and communications/editorial calendars to ensure successful project flow.
Develops and manages audience segmentation charts and message matrices to ensure comprehensive coverage and consistent communication of value propositions.
Manages marketing budgets and tracks expenses to ensure financial integrity of the marketing program.
Oversees the process by which campaign core creative is achieved and implements tactics as outlined in the marketing plan. This includes print and web advertisements, collateral/brochure materials and direct marketing and email marketing pieces. Manages all phases of the effort—from creative to production (design, coding, printing) and distribution.
With support from content providers, leads the launch of annual conference websites and manages marketing content on OSA web properties.
Assesses campaign performance through the collection of metrics and maintain dashboards and other performance reports. Makes recommendations for adjustments or contingencies to the marketing plan at milestone stages of a campaign.
Manages a robust peer-to-peer campaign involving meetings chairs. Pursues opportunities for cross-promotion (publications, membership). Leads OSA presence at select, complementary conferences/exhibitions—planning logistics, developing signage and ensuring appropriate marketing/promotion materials are available.
Negotiates trade agreements with media and association partners. Fulfills obligations as outlined in agreements, and maintains reporting mechanisms to track performance and budget.
Manages efforts in new and social media marketing channels including videos, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
For relevant meetings, manages Google AdWord campaigns. Develops keywords, writes ad content and determines placement criteria to maximize results. Tracks campaign performance to make real-time adjustments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College degree is required.
Minimum of 5 years marketing experience within a professional environment—preferably with some tenure in an association, society or nonprofit
Experience with promoting meetings, conferences and/or conventions
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent written and verbal communication and proofreading skills
Strong project management and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task to meet multiple deadlines
Knowledge of complete marketing cycle and ability to function in all phases. Experience producing a variety of marketing materials and managing prospect lists, including interfacing with external vendors (e.g., designers, printers, list brokers).
Experience with social media and on-line marketing (banner ads, web content, content/inbound marketing and Google AdWords)
Experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite products; familiarity with Access and advanced capabilities in Excel are preferred
Graphic design capabilities in print and electronic formats and experience with print production preferred; should have working knowledge/experience with Dreamweaver (or HTML) and PhotoShop
Interest in science is a plus; some travel required
