Bloomington, Indiana;Indianapolis, Indiana,, Department OFC OF VP RESEARCH (UA-VPRO-IUBLA) Department Information The Vice President for Research Office at Indiana University is responsible for research development, research compliance, and research administration. Working with university-wide offices, campus leaders, and deans, the Vice President for Research Office works to increase and diversify research and creative activities at IU, attract external funding for these activities, and develop public-private partnerships, technology transfer, and intercampus research opportunities. Job Summary The Marketing Generalist will increase internal and external visibility and awareness of IU Bloomington’s research and creative activities by guiding and implementing research communication strategies and establishing relationships with key partners both internal and external to the university. This includes communicating key messages that raise the research profile at IU and goals of the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Bloomington campus. Department-Specific Responsibilities Participates in managing relationships with all research division staff, as well as IU Studios, external media, and the general public. Plans, creates and executes communication strategy and content to highlight the impact of IU research and creative activities, specifically work taking place on the IU Bloomington campus. Assists the executive director of research communications with managing relationships with various internal and external partners. Helps to determine communications needs, projects, and programs that align with objectives of the Vice President for Research Office. With supervision and strategic input from the executive director, creates and/or oversees the development and production of web and digital content, including blogs, press releases, videos, photography, and other communication products for and about research at IU. Creates and distributes weekly IU Research email newsletter. Posts written stories and other digital content to the IU Research website and helps track website analytics. Works with associate director to create written scripts for the 3x-weekly IU Research podcast. Collaborates with VPR communications colleagues on team-based strategy and planning. Partners with IU research units, Bloomington school and department communications staff, research centers, and IU Studios staff to strategize internal research communications. Assists others on the VPR communications team with tasks as needed, such as editing, video feedback, etc. General Responsibilities Independently develops and executes basic and increasingly more complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation. Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, and programs. Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and acts as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs. Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail). May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives. Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences. May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
