Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, Business & Administrative Services, this position is responsible for the image and brand identity of Housing & Residence Life (HRL) through promotion of the department’s facilities, programs, and community. This is facilitated via the production of marketing materials and dissemination of department information through various media options, working with the senior leadership team on creating strategic marketing campaigns, and creating a positive image for both the department and TU in order to generate interest in living on campus. This position will provide oversight of the writing, editing, design, layout, production and distribution of all departmental marketing materials, web content, and social media. The incumbent will recruit, train, and supervise a support staff of student marketing and communications employees.
 

Responsibilities and Duties
 
Manage, oversee and develop communications, social media, publications, web presences and promotional materials related to the department; develop and manage website architecture and content strategy; assist in the development and lead the execution of social media strategy and content management; coordinate marketing related work and assignments between student employee writers, designers, photographers and publishers; work with all departmental program areas in developing creative briefs for marketing requests to promote facilities, programs, events and student employment; work with Towson University Printing Services and Art Services and vendors to produce promotions including printed materials, promotional items and audio/video presentations as needed; write, edit and proofread information for release in campus literature including, but not limited to student handbooks, mailing lists, newsletters, TU catalogs and the visitor’s guides; and write, edit and proofread posts for TU Today. Oversee internal brand education, awareness and consistency; meet with committees to provide brand and marketing consultation for a variety of needs; build and sustain strong partnerships with University Marketing, other campus departments or with external organizations to advance the mission of HRL; and serve as the primary HRL representative on the Student Affairs Marketing Committee and other relevant divisional and university committees.
 
Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive and flexible marketing and communication plans; direct or conduct market research to benchmark against peer institutions and stay informed on current industry trends; and work with committees to implement campaigns to educate the campus community about the benefits of living on campus.
 
Recruit, hire, train and directly supervise a diverse student marketing staff, to administer and manage all marketing, public relations, technology and events as needed. Develop and coordinate periodic in-service training session for employees. Evaluate and oversee disciplinary procedures for student staff Assessment/Administrative related duties.
 
Provide information annually and as needed to support departmental annual report and divisional monthly success logs. Prepare a marketing & communications annual report complete with user data, student evaluations and interviews, and university collaboration efforts. Serve on TU and departmental committees, work groups or special projects, as assigned. Represent the Department at various campus, division, and community functions, as assigned. Contribute to the accomplishment of department goals and initiatives, as assigned.
 

Qualifications and Skills
 

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Marketing Strategy, or related field
One year of professional experience
Experience developing electronic and multi-media marketing content
Experience or ability to coordinate/manage multiple simultaneous projects
Proficiency in graphic design
Experience with design software and applications that should include: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign or equivalent
