East Lansing, Michigan, Working/Functional Title Marketing Brand Manager Position Summary The Marketing Brand Manager (Communications Manager I) is responsible for managing the strategic communications initiatives, including social media, for the Division of Student Life & Engagement (SLE) Auxiliary Sports Group (ASG) departments, including Breslin Student Events Center, Forest Akers Golf Courses, Recreational Sports & Fitness Services, Spartan Spirit Shops, and Indoor Tennis Facility; serves as the liaison with SLE Creative Services, as well as internal and external partners, to conceptualize, develop, produce, and distribute communications and marketing materials; champions and maintains oversight of the ASG brands; manages the development and implementation of the annual communications and marketing strategic plan for ASG; conceptualizes and proposes innovative, audience-specific, integrated marketing strategies, including: campaign development, social media engagement, program implementation, budgets and timelines; provides comprehensive marketing consulting services to operating units within ASG, including managing projects throughout the production process to ensure completion in a timely manner and within budget; works with operating units to ensure consistency across all mediums and that brand messages are incorporated into all marketing and communications materials; produces copy for print and digital marketing and communications materials for ASG communications platforms; conducts market research and reviews assessment of campaigns to help guide sound business and marketing decisions that support student success and diversity and inclusion; makes recommendations to the SLE chief communications officer and ASG executive director based on research; supervises and/or engages with student staff, including social media and marketing interns; tracks communications and marketing expenses for ASG to ensure budget is adhered to; maintains and updates files including communication and marketing materials, statistical reports, clippings and measurement; keeps abreast of developments in production resources, pricing, technology and industry trends in higher education and marketing; negotiates rates and orders advertising for print, television, radio, and digital platforms; other communications projects as assigned.   Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications Experience working in a complex organization or a higher education environment; proficient in Microsoft Suite, PhotoShop, and social media platforms; strong ability to multi-task.
