Under direct supervision of the Marketing and Sales Director, the Marketing Assistant assists with routine administrative tasks related to the marketing of up to 175 new books and a backlist of more than 3,000 books. This role also aids the Marketing and Sales Director and marketing team with a variety of tasks aimed at increasing the efficiency of the marketing team in general. This role is important to the Press because it provides administrative assistance to a dynamic and effective marketing team ensuring efficiency and productivity at all times. The role is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: working with the Marketing and Sales Director to contact authors with requests for information; inputting data into the Press’s system-wide database; liaising with authors and other CUP staff to create descriptive copy for each book published; metadata creation and database maintenance; online cataloging systems; submitting books for appropriate awards and prizes; general administrative tasks; coordinating with other departments, and helping with the creation of marketing plans for new and backlist books. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal training beyond a high school diploma of one to two years, two years of college coursework, or an Associate’s degree, six months to one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experienced with standard office software and applications. Familiarity with database software (preferably FileMaker Pro). High attention to detail and excellent communication know-how. Be able to balance multiple tasks and meet the asks of many parties. No visa sponsorship is available. No relocation assistance is available. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree with 1-2 years of office experience. Experience in the publishing industry.
