The Vice Presidency for the Arts at Stanford University was established in 2017 to elevate the arts in the University’s priorities and lead strategic planning for the University’s arts goals. Stanford’s non-departmental arts programs fall under the auspices of the Vice President for the Arts (VPA), including Stanford Live (Bing Concert Hall and Frost Amphitheater), Anderson Collection at Stanford University, Cantor Arts Center, Stanford Arts Institute, and the Institute for Diversity in the Arts. The central Office of the Vice President for the Arts also manages campus-wide arts opportunities, strategic partnerships, arts grant opportunities, and student support. Stanford has recently welcomed a new Vice President for the Arts and is embarking on an exciting new chapter, driven by the recognition that art is essential to advancing equity, health, wellbeing, and engagement on the Stanford campus and in our communities. The Office of the Vice President for the Arts is seeking a Graphic Design & Marketing Associate to join our team. We are looking for a creative thinker and visual storyteller who can translate goals and ideas into compelling designs. This role creates both digital and print materials for a range of programs and events serving students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the wider public. Based in the central Office of the VPA and partnering with marketing and program staff of all VPA units, this role will work across several different styles and visual identities, while respecting the Stanford University brand and fostering cohesion between units. Create the look and feel for the next era of the Arts at Stanford! This position reports to the Associate Director of Web and Digital Services. In this role, you will: Graphic Design: 70% Create original designs (including illustrations, graphics, images and photos) as an individual contributor, taking responsibility for projects from client contact, design, internal review, quality assurance, proof inspection, to delivery. Use Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign), Mailchimp, and other mediums to develop and design materials according to defined requirements. Deliver designs in a wide variety of formats including: Posters, signage, logos, brochures, flyers, pamphlets, digital ads, social media assets, infographics, and emails. Coordinate workflows between design development and vendors and print shops to ensure high-quality output, on-time and within budget. Provide a unique look and feel to the Arts at Stanford while integrating with the broader Stanford University branding guidelines. Help drive creative identity across all channels including print, social media, web, email, and video. Support VPA Units and campus partners in design projects, within their unique style guides. VPA Units include: Stanford Live, Anderson Collection, Cantor Arts Center, Stanford Arts Institute, and the Institute for Diversity in the Arts Marketing Communications: 30% Draft and execute email/print campaigns for the Office of the Vice President for the arts, targeted to Stanford campus communities (students, staff, faculty, alumni) and broader public, with input from program managers. Evaluate marketing campaigns for potential growth and improvements. Investigate opportunities to broaden the reach of the Arts at Stanford, including newspaper, magazine, web, and social media advertisements. Schedule and manage a pool of student and professional photographers for campus events and programs. Organize and maintain our digital library of event/marketing photography. Please note that this position is based on the Stanford campus and is considered hybrid. Minimum on-campus schedule is one day per week in the office and as needed for occasional job-related duties. In order to be successful, you will bring: Bachelor’s degree in related field and three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated understanding of graphic design principles and compelling visual communication. Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team. Additional experience in photography, videography, animation, illustration, and/or writing is desired, but not required.
