Detroit, Michigan, Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSE:Manages marketing, advertising and communication strategy and implementation designed to increase the audience of Detroit’s NPR station, WDET-FM 101.9. This position oversees strategies and tactics that increase awareness, understanding and use of WDET content. Reports to General Manager, WDET.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Leads and manages the design, development, and realization of marketing and communication strategies for WDET.Guides the creation of messaging in alignment with the priorities of the WDET for both internal and external audiences. In addition to directing marketing operations, the position ensures the realization of business mission, vision & values aligned with business plans through strategic planning, branding and advertising including traditional and digital tools, market research, web, promotion and event support, graphical and textual designs, and community presence. Collaborates closely with the WDET senior leadership team and with university regarding communications, development, measurement of marketing strategies and execution. Manages and leads the activities of the marketing, web and digital team to deliver against the strategic plan including:-Website development and internet strategy (messaging, digital, social, Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing, content)-Creative and design through internal and external resources. Support content development and overall look and feel to align with the WDET brand.-Community relations partnership for positive engagement with online and event communities, seeking to innovate how we reach communities.-Align university brand standards to support the overall value and integrity as a brand where appropriate.-Establish, communicate, manage, monitor, and maintain brand compliance to support a consistent brand presence and eliminate brand confusion.Provides overall leadership and direction to staff. Sets expectations & focus, assigns duties, delegates ‎‎responsibilities, evaluates activities, prepares performance ‎appraisals & professional development plans. Provides coaching, mentoring and teaching. Manages the ‎‎administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, ‎promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, and ‎and salary ‎‎adjustments. Provides ongoing performance feedback, goal setting, and development plans for staff. ‎‎‎Plans for future staffing needs. Provides timely communications to staff. Directs partnerships with external contracted advertising agency, service providers and university resources: -Leads the development and execution of an annual marketing plan that includes owned media, earned media, digital media, social media, promotion, trades and events and community outreach.-Manages media and press releases shared with external media and university media team.-Negotiates and manages any vendor or media or other agencies to secure agreements for translation of materials into other media.-Researches, analyzes, and monitors market demographics and trends to identify and capitalize on market opportunities and minimize the effect of competitors.-Evaluates market reactions to advertising programs and adjust marketing strategies and plans to meet changing market and competitive conditions.Develops a variety of detailed reports, analyses and informational pieces to keep leadership, staff and key contractors apprised of current and future state of the market, WDET strategies, projects and plans to achieve the desired marketing and communications outcomes to elevate the stature of WDET Public radio within the University, in the local community, state and nationally. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor’s degreeRequires a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university. A Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)7 or more years experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a media related environment.
