Department Summary Center for Campus Involvement Overview ( http://campusinvolvement.umich.edu ) The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) in University Unions within Student Life at the University of Michigan is a dynamic, student-focused department that serves all undergraduate and graduate students through student programs, student organization development and event marketing and support. Through meaningful involvement, CCI creates transformative experiences, a vibrant community, and lifelong memories for University of Michigan students. CCI recognizes and supports over 1,600 student organizations through education, advising, advocacy and services. CCI also implements hundreds of social and community building programs each year, focused on building community and student connection within and beyond University Unions’ facilities. CCI consists of 25 graduate and professional staff members and 80 student staff members. University Unions Overview ( http://uunions.umich.edu ) University Unions (UU) is a self-funded auxiliary enterprise which serves the campus through its three historic unions (Michigan Union, Michigan League, Pierpont Commons), academic meeting and dining facility (Palmer Commons), Center for Campus Involvement (over 1,400 student organizations and hundreds of programs), and works in close partnership with Conferences & Event Services and Michigan Dining to provide services, programs, spaces and student involvement opportunities that serve as catalyst for connection and learning which cultivates community and belonging at the University of Michigan and beyond. Total budget volume for University Unions approximates $20 million. University Unions directly employs over 50 regular staff and 250 student staff. Job Summary You will develop and manage a synergistic communications, marketing, and social media strategy for the Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) in University Unions to promote and communicate the department’s services, resources, and programs. You will build and strengthen partnerships with marketing communications professionals within Student Life and across campus to further amplify CCI’s work. You will manage a graphic design and marketing team of 4-6 students. Marketing and Communications (70%) Develop and coordinate strategic marketing communication plans that positively position CCI and its student-centered programming to students and other campus stakeholders Plan and execute marketing and communication processes that promotes, supports and covers the lifespan of CCI and University Unions events (before, during, and post event) Ensure consistent CCI branding across all marketing communications and that digital content is current and relevant Create and implement standard operating procedures for unit communications processes, including inclusive and accessible best practices Write, edit and manage content for newsletters, email campaigns, websites, social media, event communications and annual reports Develop multi-platform responses to urgent and emerging issues affecting the campus community with unit’s leadership Coordinate social media strategies, policies, and best practices Ability to work with analytics and research tools to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives. Identify and train CCI staff on technological tools that aid in efficient communications Represent CCI and University Unions at informational fairs, expos, staff trainings, internal communications meetings, etc. Supervision (20%) Advise, manage, train and evaluate student staff team Ensure the hiring and development of student staff team Administration (10%) Oversight of the department’s marketing budget Approve and manage payroll for temporary student employees Maintain accurate records and prepare reports Other duties as assigned.
