The School of Nursing Dean’s Office has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications.   Under the direction of the Executive Dean of the School of Nursing, the Assistant Director leads all internal and external communications for the UW School of Nursing Seattle campus, including branding, marketing, media relations, government relations, advertising/promotion, and social media. The incumbent works closely with University Marketing and Communications to align the school’s communications and marketing strategy with that of the UW as a whole. She/he also works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Dean of Advancement, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Nursing School administration and executive team.  He or she will also oversee Tri-Campus School of Nursing initiatives, planning, coordinating and aligning UW Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campuses in all shared projects and goals involving marketing and communications.  This will include marketing and communications around legislative responses and outreach, national and international rankings, IPE and shared curricular initiatives, and all other Tri-Campus initiatives. The Assistant Dean for Marketing and Communications will be a member of the Executive Dean’s Executive Advisory Team. The Assistant Dean assumes a key leadership role in initiating and implementing marketing and communications strategy, media/public relations, and government relations efforts that keep the school’s internal and external constituencies informed about the impact of the school’s work, as well as enhance the overall image, awareness, and fundraising activities of the school. The position requires strong people and project management skills, as well as the ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, and handle multiple projects. The successful candidate will be able to exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, goal-driven, and analytic environment. Responsibilities: In partnership with the Executive Dean of the School of Nursing, supervise and work collaboratively with Nursing’s Public Information Officer to develop priorities and execute the marketing and communications strategy, including: Plan and implement marketing and branding strategy, with particular focus on visibility, branding, promoting data-driven national and international ranking, student and faculty recruitment, and strategic programmatic growth at the UW Seattle campus, as well as, where appropriate to Tri-Campus initiatives, across Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma.  Tri-Campus initiatives will be actively coordinated with representatives from each campus. Lead on Advancement fundraising communications strategy and tactical implementation. Supervise the Public Information Officer and the school’s contractual writing position. Provide consultation and strategy to staff in the School of Nursing’s Centers who do marketing and communications-related support to the Centers. Develop/conduct student recruiting communications strategy and tactical implementation. Strategically plan for and lead U.S. News and World Report ranking data survey and related communications. Work with the UW Central News team on media relations and outreach, especially regarding the quality and impact of the school’s research and major initiatives/developments regarding the School of Nursing. Staff the PR/Advocacy Subcommittee of the School’s volunteer Advisory Board Produce internal and external communications and marketing materials based on data-driven analysis and measurable expected outcomes. Launch a School of Nursing e-newsletters, using Marketo (the UW’s market automation tool) and create a regular distribution (at least quarterly) for this e-newsletter. Also, repurpose content from e-newsletter into a print publication to targeted donors and friends of the School. Plan and produce communications to legislative officials, included letters to state and federal delegation, coordinate visits with legislators, organize the school’s representation at targeted lobbying days in Olympia or Washington, DC. Oversee the ongoing content updates and improvements to the school’s website, Lead executive communications, including writing emailed messages, blog posts and remarks on behalf of the dean, creating PowerPoint presentations for the dean to deliver, producing talking points when needed. Represent Nursing on Central UW boards and workgroups as appropriate. Perform other duties as required to support the mission and strategic plans of the School of Nursing. Requirements: Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent work experience in related field. Additional Requirements: • Minimum 9 years of demonstrated experience in development and execution of strategic and analytic marketing and communications plans, including branding, public relations, government relations, and social media oversight. • Experience working at the University of Washington in a marketing and communications leadership role. • Record of superior writing and editing skills for marketing and philanthropic purposes, as well as a demonstrated ability to write in a style and voice suitable for a variety of audiences, including donors, legislators, faculty, current and prospective students, and the general community. Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgement to problems and tasks. • Commitment to service excellence. • Clear and concise written and verbal communication; ability to successfully communicate to multiple stakeholders in various media. • Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, data-driven, and high degree of attention to detail. • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities concurrently as evidenced by timely completion of multiple tasks. • Ability to work with diverse people with tact, diplomacy, discretion and sensitivity • Record of strong project management skills. • Strongly collaborative working style, including development of strong and innovative teams. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desired: • Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Administration or other related fields or significant experience in strategic communications leadership. • Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining collaborative working relationships.
