LinkedIn is a great tool for marketing your business because it’s different from other social media platforms. When used correctly, LinkedIn provides potential access to roughly 722 million professionals worldwide. Think of the endless opportunities this creates for networking, lead generation, referrals, and brand awareness for your business.

Truly — SO. many.

Let’s look at the 4 steps to using LinkedIn to its fullest potential.

1. Optimize your profile.

It’s not enough to simply have your business name and website on your LinkedIn profile. Try to complete as much of the profile questions as you can. Your business visibility and appearance in searches will increase by about 30% if you can complete your profile. Try to weave in natural sounding keywords throughout your About section as well.

2. Join groups.

LinkedIn is all about networking with other professionals. So, it’s a good idea to join different groups, contribute to the private discussions, and share your business. Groups can grow your page follows while building strategic social connections. Find groups to join under the “Work” icon at the top right corner of the page.

3. Create a content plan.

Make a plan for how often you will post content, and what your content will be. Just like any social media platform, you want to know the goal of your content, and your target audience. This will help you get the most out of your posts. Also, don’t forget to share your content many times. It’s not one and done on LinkedIn.

You can also continue to share older posts for more visibility! Share consistent and original thoughts and try to include visuals whenever possible – which can increase engagemena ton. Not every post should be a hard sell, so prioritize offering value in each post.

4. Ask for recommendations.

The Recommendations tool is an amazing way to build trust and social proof for your business. Ask anyone you’ve worked with to leave a quick review in the Recommendations tab. A great way to do this is to offer them the same in return. After all, both parties benefit from this type of LinkedIn street cred.

Overall, LinkedIn is a great source for getting your business seen by professionals who can hire you, join your team, partner with you, or refer you to others. Focus on optimizing, keyword usage, and networking as much as you can.
