As one of the most commonly used and quickly growing tools out there (there are, quite literally, billions of people in the world on social), social media marketing is a pretty imperative part of your marketing strategy. However, we also understand that crafting the right social media marketing presence can be kind of tricky โ especially when you add it to the roster of things you already have to do.
So, we want to make it easy. Instead of being anxious about your social media strategy, focus on building a killer social media presence โ and then going from there. Weโre sharing our go-to tips to help you start creating a rockstar presence, so that you can grow it (and optimize it, too).
Step one: strategize.
Social media marketing doesnโt have to be difficult, but itโs also going to be more beneficial if you strategize it from the jumpโฆ which is, hands down, the most important thing you can do with your marketing in the first place. When you can approach your social media through that strategic lens โ and pushing towards specific goals โ you can make changes significantly faster, and boost things like your following in a considerably stronger way.
So, when you start, ask yourself the following questions:
Am I trying to grow awareness or conversion?
Where do I want people to go after visiting my social media profiles?
What demographic am I trying to target on social media? Is that demographic aligned with my ideal customer?
How do I want to increase awareness and start building consumer engagement?
Do I want to focus more on static posts, or try out Reels, Stories, and even TikToks?
What metrics do I want to measure most (following, clicks, etc.)?
Donโt do everythingโฆ choose one to start!
There are several social media platforms, all of which can be incredibly helpful to show up on as you go. However, there can also be a lot of overwhelm if you jump into each platform from the beginning. Our biggest recommendation is to take that strategy youโve already honed in on, and use it to choose your first social media platform.
For instance, your target audience might be hanging out on LinkedIn! But, on the other hand, your target audience might be found on platforms like TikTok. Thereโs no need to try them all out at once if you donโt want to. Instead, focus on optimizing one before the other.
Create a social media content calendar to cut down on the overwhelm.
One of the biggest challenges that a lot of marketers face with a social media marketing presence comes down to one thing, and one thing only: content. Itโs easy to get caught up in the strategy and the pretty pieces, and have a hard time deciding what, when, where, and why to post.
The best way to avoid this, you ask? Create a content calendar each quarter that you can pull from. When you and your team can sit down, brainstorm, and batch out a pile of content โ taking into account everything from launches to holidays โ you can approach it from a more cohesive perspective. Plus, having a content calendar simply makes life a lot easier, especially if you have a social media manager or additional team that helps post said content.
