Showing up on social media is an integral part of being in business in 2021 — there is, quite simply, no way around it. While social media shouldn’t be the only place you focus your marketing efforts, it’s one of the easiest, cheapest, and most effective ways to attract a new audience, engage with your current audience, and build brand awareness on a huge stage.
Plus, it’s really simple — social media just isn’t that hard. While people love to talk about algorithms and posting times and hashtag strategies, it’s really just all in showing up. Whether you’re a business owner, a social media manager, or an intern, you can play a huge part in helping your business show up — here’s how.
1. Just post!
Long gone are the days where you have to show up in an aesthetically pleasing, incredibly curated way — and also long gone are the days where your social media grid has to coordinate. Instead, focus on just sharing and posting. Stop worrying so much about the way your feed looks, and just share powerful, engaging, valuable content that puts your best foot forward. So often, businesses and brands without a social media presence are without a social media presence because they find themselves constantly picking everything apart or getting decision paralysis around what to post. Instead, just be. It matters.
2. Engage, engage, engage.
The community aspect of social media is one of the most powerful tools around — and it’s free! Your job? To tap into it with genuine engagement. Show up for the other brands on your social media feeds with encouragement, reply back to commenters on your posts, and consistently share things like polls and question boxes that encourage community building organically. By continually making your audience feel like they matter, you’ll be able to build an engagement-heavy presence that will feel genuinely connected to your brand, your business, your services, and your products.
3. It doesn’t have to be all business, all the time.
If there’s one thing that this last year has taught us about the impact that businesses can have, it’s the power of social media. See, long gone are the days where businesses need to rely on sterile, business-first social media shares — and instead here are the days where businesses are often expected to go deeper. While you shouldn’t share anything you feel uncomfortable with, use your business’s social media presence to underline your company values and share important things with your audience.
